NEW BOOK! Enchanted Earth

Question: Door and Window Feng Shui

Hello Maureen!

I enjoy reading your blog.

apartment_doorFirst question:  I am moving to a new apartment and stay on the 3rd floor. The front door of my apartment is facing another apartment, bang opposite each other. Is this bad feng shui, will the chi wonder which home to go to? Can I do anything to remedy this? Does this affect privacy?

Second Question: My windows face the windows of another building and when the curtains are not drawn, I can see through into their house.
And so will they. Is it bad to face another’s house and have this view? If so, what can be done?

Third Question: My question is regarding my master bedroom The door of this bedroom opens into the room and faces the bathroom door. Is this bad news for love? Are there simple things I can do to remedy it?

Thank you!  – D

My Response:

Here my responses, corresponding to your questions above:

  1. It’s okay that your neighbor’s door is directly opposite yours as long as your doors are the same size. And being an apartment building, I think it’s safe to assume that they are the same size. If possible, add some liveliness to your door, such as a welcome mat or colorful wreath or artwork on your door. This will aid in attracting positive chi!
  2. Of course, there is nothing you can do about facing this building. However, you can add attractive window treatments to make this space nice. If the windows are tall in height, perhaps you can add window treatments that will block the view (say, half-way down) but still allow light to come in from above. Another solution is attractive plastic adhesives that you can place on the windows that will allow light but obstructs the view.
  3. If the bedroom door opens into a room and the bathroom door is opposite this door, there is probably enough space not to make this an issue. (If it opened directly to the bathroom door in a hallway, I would keep the bathroom door closed over). It doesn’t sound like there is a feng shui concern here, but you might want to clarify further.

Thank you for reading! And look for more Q & A!

    Hi Maureen!
Thank you for the response and clarification.!
For Q 3, there is enough space for the door to open into the room and it does not touch the bathroom door/wall.
So I think we are good :)
    Thank you!
    Cheers and kind regards!
