For all of you who are “plant-killers” (and, egads, there are quite a few of you!) I stumbled upon this wonderful idea to help bring life and greenery into your space: indoor moss gardens.
What I love about these gardens is that they are easy to make, easy to care for and downright cheap! In fact, you may already have the tools required to make one right now.
moss – gather some moss from outdoors – get a little variety if your planter is large enough
a container – a glass jar or bowl works equally well
potting soil works well to act as a substrate for the moss – it helps retain moisture and provides acidity, which the moss requires
any other small nature elements – such as a few cool stones, pine cone, or a small piece of driftwood
I just came back from my little hike in the woods and at first, thought, not much moss here. But after walking 30 minutes, I saw so much moss and several varieties.
I gathered my containers and had three gardens created in a matter of a few minutes.
First I laid out newspaper and arranged my moss in a small bowl.
Then, I saw I had enough moss and got a mason jar and a planter that was empty.
Maintenance? Just keep it moist. I use a spray bottle with water that makes that a cinch.
Here is more detail to create one of your own today, but it really isn’t much more than this! So simple, and a wonderful way to bring nature indoors.
