I love using items that I find in nature to decorate for the holidays. Not only is it earth-friendly (not buying toxic and/or resource-depleting items), but it’s thrifty, creative and fun!
And another reason why I love decorating with natural elements is that you almost cannot do it badly (well, almost). I am not the Martha Stewart-type, but I do manage to get some pretty decent results.
Oh, and did I forget to mention that’s it’s also great feng shui? The main purpose of feng shui is to bring us closer to, and in harmony with, nature.
So enjoy some of these ideas this holiday season:
To the left is my own rendition of “A Little Tipsy” on my Pinterest page, Natural Holidays. A vintage wooden box, some fresh sprigs just cut from my tree and glowing candles in glass votives.
Using fruits and spices: I love to make a basket with oranges and cloves. It’s so simple and elegant, but the best part is the aroma in the house!
Decorating mantles: I have three fireplaces in my home and I love to decorate them as focal points in each room. This is a beautiful example, with natural greenery and pine cones, terracotta pots, candles and one my favorite materials, burlap!
