Feng Shui Your Car

You can use the principles of feng shui at home and at work…why not on your car?

If you are like most people, you probably spend quite a bit of time in your car commuting to work. The average U.S. commuter spends 25.4 minutes in their car, but I personally spent over two hours each way to a job in Connecticut when I was a marketing freelancer in Westport! So I know how important it is to feel good in your car.

I think the most practical feng shui tips center around comfort, safety, and security.Feng Shui Your Car

But first, we have to deal with the issue of clutter. If you have clutter in your car, you’ll need to deal with that first. Go through your car with a plastic bag and purge as necessary.

Some items that belong elsewhere can creep into your car and stay there for way too long. Remember: a cluttered car is just like a cluttered home. You cannot relax and focus with all that stuff around you.

Safety and security – For obvious reasons, we should have our car inspected, have regular maintenance checkups and have sufficient gas in the car. I know this from plenty of experience. How relaxed can you be when your needle has been running on empty for the last five miles while you search for a gas station?

Comfort – Be sure your seat is adjusted to fit your body. It can be physically exhausting if you are not comfortable. Adjust the temperature to a pleasing level for you. Bring some CD’s that you enjoy or a book-on-CD that can really help make the commute enjoyable.

Incorporate little personal touches – Personalize your car with small objects that are meaningful to you. I have a few talismans tied to my rear view mirror that bring me protection, as well as a few beautiful stones that I picked up from my local beach. They help center me and connect me to nature.
