Chances are that you already know what earthing is. You just didn’t know it had a name.
Earthing is a growing movement that acknowledges that Earth’s natural energy is vital for vibrant health.
The grounding energies of the Earth provide our bodies with necessary nutrients, just as the sun provides warmth and Vitamin D. We cannot see this energy, but many that are sensitive enough can detect it. They may get a tingling sensation. For others, it’s a feel-good feeling that you can’t quite put your finger on while enjoying the outdoors.
Why is Earthing important?
For millions of years, our species has walked the Earth. We’ve lived among and within nature. Our intelligence has come through our senses and observation. But now we are completely severed from this primitive relationship with the Earth. During our routine daily lives we are surrounded by reprocessed air, synthetic materials and by electro-magnetic fields from all the wireless technology, appliances and cell phones. The combination of these effects is more than its parts. They work together to create a techno-chemical soup, which creates stress on our bodies which often manifests as physical exhaustion, illness, emotional and spiritual stress.
In addition, rubber-soled or plastic shoes have replaced leather-soled shoes for many of us. What effect does this have on our bodies? It insulates us from absorbing the natural electric charge from the Earth, just as the rubber tires on our cars protect us from lightning charges.
Why Should This Concern Us?
With so much increased stress in our lives, from multiple sources (man made and technological), there are many health benefits of these Earth energies. Studies have shown the positive effects of earthing including:
- Reduces blood viscosity – a major factor in cardiovascular disease
- Influences physiological processes
- Neutralizes bioelectrical stress from static electricity and EMFs
Fast and Cheap Way to “Earth”
What is the easiest way to “earth?” Go barefoot as much as possible! Walk barefoot on grass, dirt or the beach. It doesn’t help your body to walk barefoot on concrete, pavers, tiles and even wood flooring. You need to be directly connected to the earth.
You can also sleep on the Earth, as we’ve done for millions of years. But even sleeping in a sleeping bag will not do. You must have some part of your skin in contact with the Earth to be grounded.
Other Practical Ways to Earth
Some firms have come out with products that can help you in your quest to “earth”. There are earthing products that range from $15 to well over $300, including earthing mats which have a multitude of uses (such as placing on the floor while your work barefoot), earthing sheets for your bed, grounding cords, that you can use in your own bed. I even saw an Earthing Bed, which is like a memory foam mattress.
How Do These Products Work?
According to one internet source, earthing products tap into the natural ground electricity from the earth through the use of grounded outlets or grounding rods in the earth itself. The earth’s energy is a continuous direct current (DC), unlike the electricity in homes which is alternating current (AC) which is foreign to our biology.
However, they do not run on electricity. “They simply pick up the Earth’s energy through the ground port of a properly grounded outlet or from a ground rod placed directly in the Earth. The energy passes through a cord to the conductive Earthing mat, sheet, or band specially designed for human grounding. When your body comes in contact with the Earthing product you absorb the Earth’s energy. Earthing products are like “barefoot substitutes,” enabling you to receive the outside energy of the Earth inside your home or office. “
