WHAT IS RED STRING?
What is the red string all about? Red is a very auspicious (favorable) color in Chinese culture. It is said to not only ward off evil but to infuse the feng shui “cure” many thousands of times with fortunate blessings. It is meant to magnify your intentions, so placing with prayers for your utmost desires, it is to be done reverently.
Using Red String in Feng Shui Cures
As a practicing trained-BTB (Black Sect Tibetan Buddhist) Feng Shui consultant, I was taught to use red string to hang feng shui crystals and other objects as well as other uses. As a feng shui teacher and consultant, I have passed this tradition down to many students and clients. But I did a quick google search on red string and found that there are several other cultural references associated with “red string”:
Red String Symbolism in Other Cultures
Judaism subscribes to wearing a red string around your wrist as a talisman to ward off the evil eye. It is worn on the left wrist, as Kabbalah associates the left body with connecting to spirit.
In Hinduism, priests wear red string on their wrists while performing sacred ritual. They also tie these strings on all who attends the ceremony – right wrist for men and unmarried women, left wrist for married women. It is to remind them that they are partaking in a sacred act.
And surprisingly, even in the U.S. South during the Civil War there was an activist group called “The Red Strings” that were against succession and slavery. They took their symbolism from the biblical story of Rahab from the Old Testament. Joshua, Chapter 2, recounts that the “harlot Rahab” helped two spies of Israel escape from Jericho with a red cord. They advised her to hang red thread in her window as a recognition symbol and to show her faith.
A beautiful old Chinese proverb:
An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place, or circumstances. The thread may stretch or tangle but will never break.
So it goes that the proverb does not only pertain to romantic relationships, but to any significant relationship in your life. There is destiny, fate, in meeting certain people.
Wearing a red string bracelet reminds us of our loved ones and the loved ones we haven’t yet met. It reminds us that we are all interconnected. How romantic!
The red string has beautiful symbolism to bring into your feng shui cures and everyday life!
